Newport is a walking city.  If you are staying downtown, walking is the best option.  The fastest way about town is a bicycle and there are several places to rent bicycles. Some host families may also provide bikes.   Uber and Lyft are popular and not expensive, and there are even pedi cabs.

 

The sailing center, Sail Newport, is located in Fort Adams State Park, about 3.5 miles from downtown.  The trip by bicycle is picturesque and takes about 15 minutes.  You can also go by Uber or Lyft, or if you have time, take a ferry from downtown to Fort Adams
